Cerma STM-3 Manual Transmission & Drivetrain Treatment — One-Time Nano Silicon Carbide Ceramic Protection
Cerma STM-3® Manual Transmission Treatment is a one-time ceramic application that permanently bonds Nano Silicon Carbide (SiC) to the internal metal surfaces of your manual transmission and drivetrain components. Restores smooth, precise shifting. Eliminates slippage, hesitation, and rough gear changes. Protects differentials, transfer cases, and planetary gears.
One application. Permanent protection. No disassembly required.
✅ What Cerma Manual Transmission Treatment Does
- Restores smooth, precise shifting — fast, accurate gear changes like new
- Stops slippage, hesitation, and rough shifting — ceramic coating on all gear contact surfaces
- Eliminates seal leaks — conditions and restores transmission seals
- Lowers operating temperatures — less friction means less heat buildup
- Extends fluid life up to 4x — cleaner internals mean gear oil stays cleaner longer
- Prevents sludge and varnish buildup — SiC ceramic barrier keeps internals clean
- Protects planetary gears and synchros — ceramic coating on every metal-on-metal contact surface
- Reduces gear noise and vibration — smoother gear mesh for quieter operation
💡 Preventative + Restorative: Use Cerma on new or healthy transmissions to prevent wear before it starts, or on worn transmissions to restore shifting performance and extend service life. Either way, the SiC ceramic matrix permanently improves every metal surface it contacts.
🔬 How STM-3 Ceramic Technology Works
Cerma STM-3® is not a gear oil additive or friction modifier — it's a ceramic surface treatment. The Nano Silicon Carbide particles penetrate into the sub-surfaces of your transmission's metal components and create a permanent Silicon Carbide ceramic matrix.
SiC has a Mohs hardness of 9.5 (just below diamond) and a melting point of 2,730°C. Once bonded, this ceramic matrix creates an ultra-smooth, ultra-hard surface on every gear, synchro, bearing, and shaft — dramatically reducing friction, heat, and wear.
The coating survives fluid changes because it's bonded to the metal, not suspended in the gear oil. Contains no solvents and no PTFE (Teflon). Environmentally safe.
📋 How to Apply
- Locate your fill port — manual transmissions typically have a fill plug on the side of the housing
- Add Cerma STM-3 — pour 2oz directly into the transmission or differential
- Drive normally — the SiC particles bond to internal metal surfaces during normal driving
- Enjoy permanent protection — the ceramic matrix is now part of your drivetrain. No reapplication needed
No fluid drain required — add directly to existing gear oil. Compatible with all manual transmission fluid types and gear oil weights. Safe for brass synchros, bearings, seals, and all non-metal components.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Is this a one-time treatment?
Yes. The Nano Silicon Carbide particles permanently bond to your transmission's internal metal surfaces. The ceramic coating survives fluid changes — when you drain and replace gear oil, the SiC protection stays on the metal permanently. No reapplication needed.
Can I use this in my differential too?
Yes. Cerma STM-3® Manual Transmission Treatment works in manual transmissions, differentials (front and rear), transfer cases, and other drivetrain components that use gear oil. Use one 2oz bottle per component. For vehicles with separate transmission and differential housings, you may want to treat both — this is where the volume discounts (buy 2 save 9.4%, buy 5 save 18.8%) come in handy.
Is it safe for brass synchros?
Yes. Cerma STM-3® is safe for brass synchronizers, bearings, seals, gaskets, and all non-metal components. The SiC particles bond to steel and iron gear surfaces only — they do not interact with or damage brass, bronze, or other soft metals used in synchro rings.
Will it fix grinding or hard shifting?
Many customers report significantly improved shifting after applying Cerma STM-3®. The ceramic coating reduces friction on gear teeth and synchro surfaces, which can eliminate grinding, hard shifting, and gear engagement issues. If your transmission has mechanical damage (broken teeth, cracked synchros), the treatment cannot repair structural damage — but it will help any transmission that still functions.
Can I use this in an automatic transmission?
No. This product is formulated specifically for manual transmissions and drivetrains. For automatic transmissions, use Cerma Automatic Transmission Treatment, which is designed for the different clutch pack and torque converter mechanisms in automatics.
What gear oil is it compatible with?
Cerma STM-3® is compatible with all manual transmission fluids and gear oils — including GL-4, GL-5, 75W-90, 75W-140, and manufacturer-specific fluids. The treatment bonds to metal, not fluid, so your gear oil choice doesn't affect the ceramic protection.
Do I need to drain my gear oil first?
No. Add Cerma STM-3® directly to your existing gear oil through the fill plug. No fluid drain or flush required. For best results, apply to a warm transmission after a short drive.
How long until I notice smoother shifting?
Most drivers notice smoother, more precise shifting within the first 100–500 miles of driving after application. Full ceramic bonding develops over the first 1,000–3,000 miles. Reduced gear noise is often the first thing customers notice.
