Cerma Ceramic Gear Treatment H.D — STM-3 Nano Silicon Carbide for Industrial & Heavy-Duty Gear Boxes

Cerma STM-3® Gear Treatment H.D is a heavy-duty ceramic application designed for industrial gear boxes, large differentials, and commercial equipment operating under extreme load and heat. The Nano Silicon Carbide (SiC) particles permanently bond to internal metal surfaces — creating a ceramic matrix that eliminates friction, reduces operating temperature, and extends gear life in the most demanding environments.

One application. Permanent protection. Built for equipment that can't afford downtime.

✅ What Cerma Gear Treatment H.D Does

  • Restores gear box performance — eliminates rough operation, noise, and inefficiency
  • Reduces operating temperature — less friction means significantly less heat under sustained loads
  • Prevents sludge and varnish buildup — SiC ceramic barrier keeps internals clean
  • Protects against extreme wear — Mohs 9.5 hardness ceramic on every gear tooth and bearing
  • Extends gear oil life — cleaner internals mean lubricant stays effective longer
  • Reduces friction and drag — less parasitic loss means more power to the output
  • Quiets gear noise — smoother gear mesh reduces whine, howl, and vibration
  • Prevents corrosion — ceramic barrier protects metal surfaces from moisture and acid damage
  • Reduces downtime — permanent protection means fewer gear box failures and less maintenance

💡 Why industrial equipment needs H.D: Industrial gear boxes operate under continuous high-torque, high-temperature conditions that standard automotive gear treatments aren't sized for. Cerma Gear Treatment H.D uses a 6oz concentrated dose and a scalable dosage formula (1oz per 30 gallons) designed for the larger oil volumes found in industrial reducers, heavy equipment, and commercial drivetrains.

🔬 How STM-3 Ceramic Technology Works

Cerma STM-3® is not a gear oil additive — it's a ceramic surface treatment. The Nano Silicon Carbide particles penetrate into the sub-surfaces of gears, bearings, and shafts — creating a permanent Silicon Carbide ceramic matrix within the metal.

SiC has a Mohs hardness of 9.5 (just below diamond) and a melting point of 2,730°C. Once bonded, this ceramic matrix creates ultra-smooth, ultra-hard surfaces on every gear tooth, bearing race, and shaft — dramatically reducing friction, heat, and wear even under continuous heavy loads.

The coating survives fluid changes because it's bonded to the metal, not suspended in the oil. Contains no solvents and no PTFE (Teflon). Non-corrosive. Environmentally safe.

📋 Dosage & Application

Oil Volume Dosage
Up to 30 gallons 6 oz (1 bottle)
Each additional 30 gallons Add 1 oz per 30 gallons
Example: 90-gallon system 6oz + 2oz = 8oz total
  1. Determine your gear box oil capacity — check equipment manual or nameplate
  2. Calculate dosage — 6oz base + 1oz per additional 30 gallons
  3. Add Cerma H.D — pour through the fill port into existing gear oil
  4. Run equipment normally — SiC bonds to metal surfaces during normal operation
  5. Enjoy permanent protection — the ceramic matrix lasts the life of the gear box

No oil drain required. Compatible with all industrial gear oils — mineral, synthetic, PAO, PAG, and all ISO viscosity grades. Safe for all seals, gaskets, and non-metal components.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate the dosage for my equipment?

Start with 6oz for the first 30 gallons of gear oil capacity, then add 1oz per additional 30 gallons. Example: a gear box with 60 gallons of oil needs 6oz + 1oz = 7oz. A 120-gallon system needs 6oz + 3oz = 9oz. Check your equipment manual or nameplate for oil capacity. Call 239-344-9861 if you need help calculating.

What's the difference between this and the standard Gear Box Treatment?

Both use the same STM-3 Nano Silicon Carbide technology. The standard Gear Box Treatment comes in 2oz ($70.40) and 6oz ($193.60) for automotive differentials and small gear boxes. The H.D version is a concentrated 6oz dose ($290.40) formulated for industrial equipment with larger oil volumes (30+ gallons), using a scalable dosage ratio.

What gear oil types is it compatible with?

Cerma H.D is compatible with all industrial gear oils — mineral, synthetic, PAO, PAG, and all ISO viscosity grades (ISO 68, 100, 150, 220, 320, 460, 680). The treatment bonds to metal, not oil, so your lubricant choice doesn't affect performance.

Is this a one-time treatment?

Yes. The SiC particles permanently bond to gear teeth, bearings, and shaft surfaces within the metal's sub-surface. The ceramic matrix survives oil changes and lasts the life of the gear box. No reapplication needed — even after complete oil drain and refill, the protection remains bonded to the metal.

Can it fix a noisy industrial gear box?

In many cases, yes. Gear noise in industrial reducers is typically caused by friction and micro-imperfections on gear tooth surfaces. Cerma's SiC ceramic coating smooths these contact surfaces, often significantly reducing or eliminating gear whine and vibration. If gears have severe structural damage (broken teeth, spalled surfaces), the treatment cannot repair that — but it will help any gear box that still operates.

Do I need to drain the oil first?

No. Add Cerma H.D directly through the fill or inspection port to your existing gear oil. No drain, flush, or equipment shutdown required beyond normal safety procedures. For best results, add while the equipment is at operating temperature to ensure thorough circulation.

Is there volume pricing for multiple units?

Yes. For facilities treating multiple gear boxes or fleet applications, contact us at 239-344-9861 or info@cermatreatment.com for volume pricing and technical guidance on dosing across your equipment.
